Project Overview

UrbanGreen combined its efforts with Generation Homes and Ngāti Awa to provide a complete landscape design and construction service for a new 15-home development and a 3-home redevelopment in Whakatāne.

Challenges & Solutions

This project involved residential areas, community park areas, stone retaining walls, fencing, gardens, and feature spaces. Urbangreen not only ensured proper site execution but also contributed to workforce development by assisting the local tamariki in training them on landscaping and construction basics.

The project had a tight deadline, so the work had to be meticulously planned and coordinated. UrbanGreen collaborated with both Generation Homes and the Iwi to keep communication open and maintain a flexible construction schedule. Multiple active worksites and trades working together at the same time on-site meant that UrbanGreen deployed six crews (16 staff) to be able to work across all zones without any interruptions.

UrbanGreen managed the multi-site demands without hiccups by setting up effective teams and scheduling processes. Communication with the Generation team was continuous, which meant that any conflicts could be resolved efficiently and the flow of work would not be interrupted.

Project Outcome

The project was completed within the timeframe, a quality result for the Iwi and the wider community. The new landscape enhanced the livability and appearance of the housing community, while also leaving a legacy through the training of young local workers.

“It was a privilege to be involved in a project that not only transformed a community space, but also invested in the next generation. We’re proud of the quality result and the strong partnerships we built along the way.”
