Project Overview

UrbanGreen performed the necessary operations to prepare a steep, bare section for a new home that Landmark Homes was building. The site was very challenging due to the slope where the house was to be built, difficult site access, and uneven ground. Through a collaborative team effort with engineers, builders and the property owners, UrbanGreen delivered a customised earthworks and retaining solution to prepare the site for a new build.

Challenges & Solutions

Ground conditions at the site presented the most difficulties. The surface, which is mainly composed of pumice, offered inconsistent drilling conditions and limited stability, making the installation of retaining walls particularly difficult. UrbanGreen and the project engineers adopted drilling techniques and on-the-go solutions so that the retaining system is safe and structurally sound. Over 3,000m³ of material needed to be extracted and transferred from a very tight and steep working area. To overcome this, the earthworks and wall construction were strategically staged to minimise material handling and maintain critical site access. Efficient task scheduling with the builders allowed for a smooth flow of operations while avoiding unnecessary delays.

Project Outcome

UrbanGreen worked closely with the engineers and builders to deliver quality retaining walls, keeping delays to a minimum during the house build.

“This was one of those projects that really tested our ability to adapt and problem-solve on the go. But by working closely with the engineers, builders, and homeowners, we delivered a safe, stable, and build-ready platform. It’s a great example of what happens when collaboration and planning come together on a tough site.”
